Betty Lou Hollingsworth Pollock, age 90, of Johnson City slipped into the arms of Jesus on June 4, 2025, at home with family presence. Betty Lou was born on October 30, 1934, to Charles “Charlie” Earnest Hollingsworth and Myra Dyer Hollingsworth in LaFollette, Tennessee. Betty Lou accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior during a revival in her home church, the LaFollette Methodist Church, in her high school days. She is a graduate of LaFollette High School and attended Emory & Henry College for a year before transferring to Asbury University and graduating with a major in Christian Education in 1958. It was at Asbury that she met and married the love of her life, her husband of 66 years on June 6, 1959, The Rev. James “Jim” S. Pollock.
She was an exceptional minister’s wife, teaching all ages of Sunday School classes, but especially extra successful in high school classes and starting new young adult Sunday School classes. She also has filled in as a “preacher” of the day on occasion. She has served as church secretary, director of church plays, Director of Vacation Bible Schools, Dillards Department Store at West Town Mall in Knoxville, Medical Records & Technical Clerk at Family Medicine at ETSU, and a short time with Chattanooga Convention Center. She was an active member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church before health issues arose and the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class where she once shared the teaching position in the late 1980’s.
She and Jim have travelled to all states but six, and enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise as gifts for their 40th wedding anniversary, and to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary. In addition of being survived by her husband Jim of 66 wonderful years, she also leaves sons, Jimmy (Kara) Pollock and Brad Pollock, Chucky Hale, daughter, Sherri Pollock, all of Johnson City Area; grandsons, Clint (Stacey) Hinkle of Knoxville, Camron Pollock, Carter (Emma Kate) Pollock, Cade (Madison) Pollock, granddaughter, Kayla (Lucas) Stinson, all of Johnson City; great granddaughters, Sunnie Hinkle, Luna Hinkle, Kendall Stinson, and great grandson, Liam Stinson. As well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
