Beverly C. Mayes, age 98 of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on August 30, 2026 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was a native of Asheville, North Carolina, but lived in Johnson City since 1951. She was the daughter of the late Charles E. Creasman and Martha Lawson Creasman of Asheville, N. C.

She attended Montreat College, Black Mountain, N.C. for two years and then transferred to Radford University in Radford, Virginia to complete her BS degree in Business Education. After moving to Johnson City, she became employed by Dr. Howell Sherrod, who was just setting up his orthopedic practice at a very busy time because the polio epidemic of the early 50's. Her employment continued for 40 years, during which time the solo practice became Watauga Orthopedics and eventually grew to a multi-doctor practice. She was fortunate to have input into the planning of the building now housing Watauga Orthopedics. After the many years of enjoyable service, she retired in 1991.

She was one of the original members and past President of the Medical Assistants Society which later came to be known as the Medical Office Managers Association. She also directed the installation of one of the very earliest computer systems in any Johnson City medical office at that time. After two years she missed working, and became a part-time transcriptionist for the Radiology Department at Johnson City Medical Center. After retiring the second time, she became interested in machine embroidery and quilting, and enjoyed her association with the quilters at St. Mary's who made small quilts for the shut-ins of the church. Her other hobbies included swimming and attempts at golf. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Charlene Kyker of Johnson City, a brother, Charles Creasman, Jr. of Norfolk, VA, her children's father, Stanley E. Young of Tavares, FL, second husband, Daniel J. Mayes, son, Kevin E. Young, step-mother, Esther L. Creasman all of Johnson City, step-daughter, Susan Hope Dawson of Murfreesboro, TN, step-sisters, Eugenia Creasman of Spokane, WA, and Mildred Vick of Hendersonville, NC, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her two children, Kurt C. Young and Kristie K. Young, step-son, John Mayes all of Johnson City. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Mark
(Allison) Young and Mike Young of Johnson City, Bo Daniel (Beth) Young of VA, and two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Sophie Young of Johnson City, and great-grandson, Joseph Young of VA.

The family will receive friends from 10am until 11am on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 11am with Fr. Dustin Collins officiating. A graveside service will be immediately following in Monte Vista Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School, 2211 E. Lakeview Dr. Johnson City, TN.
