Obituary for Bobby Elbert Penley

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bobby Elbert Penley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on May 14, 2026, at the age of 76. Bobby was born on November 5, 1949, in Rogersville, TN, and spent most of his life in Greeneville, TN, where he made countless memories with his family and friends.

Bobby was a professional heavy equipment operator, known for his remarkable skills in the industrial sector. He took pride in his work and poured his heart into everything he did. But beyond his profession, Bobby had a larger-than-life personality and a zest for the outdoors. He loved nothing more than fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. Weekend adventures filled with dune buggy rides were the highlight of many gatherings, and he cherished those moments spent with loved ones, especially with his dear brother, Roy Penley.

Bobby is survived by his devoted spouse, Martha Penley his two daughters, Melissa & Teddy Hartsook and Georgia Garland. He was proud to be a grandfather to Julia Hoilman, Adam Garland, Bethany Garland, Allison Roman, Tiffany Roman, Caleb Gray, Nevaeh Hartsook, and Raven Hartsook, and he found joy in being a great-grandfather to several little ones. Each of them holds a special place in his heart, as he did in theirs. His brothers and sisters Betty Smith & Travis, Margaret Smith, Geneva & Michael Gray, Roy & Kay Penley, Frankie Penley; Several nieces and nephews; and special friends Ronald & Nancy Pierson.

Bobby will be missed dearly by all who knew him, but we can take comfort in the cherished memories and the love he shared.

The Penley family would appreciate any donations to help fund the funeral services. Thank you for any support.
