Doris Marie Troxell

Doris Marie Troxell, age 89, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 26, 2025. She was surrounded by family.

Doris was born on August 10, 1935, in Evansville, Indiana to the late A. Melvin and Frances Hedges.

She graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1953. She attended East Tennessee State University and later earned her master's in social work degree from the University of Tennessee in 1992. She earned her Licensed Clinical Social Worker certification in 1999. After earning her master's degree, Doris worked in various social work positions until her retirement.

Doris was married to Gary Troxell from 1953 until 1976. They had 5 children, Donna Church of Lawrence, KS, Laura Barrowman of Johnson City, TN, Gary Troxell of Richmond, VA, Karen Martin of West Milton, OH and Steve Troxell of Mill Creek, WA.

She loved talking with and spending time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed periodic get togethers with her brother and 5 sisters. She enjoyed playing a variety of card games. She entered the social work field because she genuinely wanted to help people and could see the good in every one.

In addition to her children, Doris is survived by 7 grandchildren , 4 great-grand-children, 1 brother, 5 sisters and many nieces and nephews.

A very special "thank you" to the staffs of Townview apartments and American House, as well as the Gentiva Hospice workers that helped her so much.

A celebration of Doris' life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, 2001 East Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN 37601.
