Dorothy Evelyn Chace Barber, age 83, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, following a brief illness.
Dorothy lived a life rich in simple joys and meaningful connections. She was an avid lover of birds and could often be found watching and identifying them with quiet delight. She found great happiness in square dancing, card playing, tending her garden, and beachcombing. Her warmth, laughter, and appreciation for life's small pleasures left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colonial Dames, honoring her deep appreciation for history and heritage.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 51 years, Michael Joseph Barber, as well as her parents, Evelyn F. Chace Cochran and Clifford D. Chace.
She leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her three children, Michael J. Barber, Jr. of Taunton, Massachusetts; Beth Evelyn Barber (Stacey Williams) of Johnson City, Tennessee; and Alan Barber (Claire) of Pittsboro, North Carolina. She is also survived by her beloved grandson, Ethan A. Barber of Charleston, South Carolina, and her longtime companion, Dennis Garber of Jonesborough, Tennessee.
Dorothy will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her devotion to family, and the joy she found in the world around her. Her presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 12:00pm in Monte Vista Memorial Park. Following the service, guests are warmly welcomed to visit at the home of the daughter, located at 911 Millercrest Drive, Johnson City, Tennessee, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
