Listen to Obituary

Dossie Lou Pritchard, age 86, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed peacefully at home into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a brief illness on March 5, 2026.

Dossie was born on February 24, 1940, in Johnson City to the late Evain and Mae Pritchard. Except for a brief period during World War II when she and her family lived in Maryland, she remained a lifelong resident of East Tennessee.

From an early age, Dossie had a loving and nurturing spirit. She treasured helping her mother care for her baby sister and later delighted in helping care for her niece and nephew, and eventually her great-nephews. Family meant everything to Dossie, and she expressed her love through both her presence and the simple joys she shared—especially in the kitchen. Many will fondly remember that no one could make sweet tea or cornbread quite like Dossie.

Dossie was truly one of the kindest souls anyone could meet. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her and was a friend to everyone she encountered. Her faith was the center of her life. She loved her Lord Jesus with all her heart and longed to see Him again, along with her mother and father. Through her gentle spirit and generous heart, she modeled Christ’s love without hesitation.

She faithfully attended services at North Johnson City Baptist Church. In her quieter moments, Dossie enjoyed birdwatching, reading, and working puzzles.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Blake and Harriett Wiseman; her paternal grandparents, Joel and Roberta Pritchard; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, including Gail Rankin, who was like a sister and Scotty Pritchard, who was like a brother to Dossie; and her beloved chihuahua, Mork.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved sister, Sandy (Larry) Souders; her niece and nephew, Evangeline (Chris) Nicosia and their sons, Joseph and Joshua, Nick Souders, and Jennifer (Johnny) Shelton and their children, Isaiah and Sophie; as well as several cousins.

Dossie’s gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and boundless kindness will be remembered and treasured always by those who had the blessing of knowing her.

Dossie’s family will receive friends from 12:00-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following at 1:30, under the direction of Pastor Rick Powell. A graveside service will commence at 3:00 p.m. at Happy Valley Memorial Park.
