Listen to Obituary

Dwight Whitworth, born August 10, 1953, had his faith made sight on October 24, 2025, at the age of 72. A devoted man of faith, gifted musician, and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Dwight dedicated his life to serving God through ministry.

Dwight grew up in McAdenville, North Carolina, and later attended Free Will Baptist Bible College in Nashville, Tennessee, where he met Debra Lee Thomas. They married and shared 49 beautiful years until Debra's passing on May 21, 2023. Dwight found love and joy again and married Kathy Parks Whitworth, with whom he shared two years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Parks Whitworth; his children, Matt Whitworth (Angel) and Meredith Whitworth Eades (Dr. David Eades); his cherished grandchildren, Peyton and Caroline Whitworth, and Roman Eades, who affectionately knew him as "Big Daddy"; and his sister, Devron Whitworth Harvey. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Debra Lee Thomas Whitworth; his parents, John and Lanie Whitworth; and his siblings, John Wayne Whitworth, Kenneth David Whitworth, and Beverly Whitworth Bundy.

Throughout his life, Dwight's passion for music ministry touched countless lives. He conducted orchestras and large choirs, and his heart remained steadfastly devoted to the things of God and the ministry of the local church. In 2016, Dwight and Debra established Dwight Whitworth and Company (DWC), where he served as President. DWC pairs churches with needed staff members throughout the United States, extending its ministry's reach far and wide. DWC will continue his legacy and passion, led by his son, Matt.

An avid UNC Basketball fan, Dwight's enthusiasm for the Tar Heels was matched only by his love for his family and his calling to serve the Lord through music.
