Edward Smithpeters, Sr., 91, of 503 Pardee Street, Johnson City, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Newport, son of the late Sam and Lonnie Greene Smithpeters. Edward was a self employed demolition contractor. He was a member of the Piney Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: his wife, Helen Anderson Smithpeters; four sons, David, Edward Jr., Buddy and Sammy Smithpeters; two sisters, Alice Branch and Crecia Miller and two brothers.Survivors include: four sons, Paul, James, Raymond and Mark Smithpeters all of Johnson City; four daughters, Lonie Keever of Johnson City, Betty Smithpeters of Johnson City, Mary Maupin of Johnson City, Loretta Maupin of Jonesborough; a sister, Ruby Carter of Johnson City; 24 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; a special caregiver, Novella Miller; several nieces and nephews. A funeral is scheduled for Friday, February 1, 2008 in the South Chapel of the Morris-Baker Funeral Home at 8:00 p.m. under the direction of Rev. Dewey Ward. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Saturday, February 2, 2008 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 11:00 a.m. Active pallbearers will be: his sons and sons-in-law. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the funeral home to leave in procession at 10:40 a.m.
