Edward Charles "Chuck" Whitson III

Edward Charles Whitson III, known to many as “Chuck,” age 49, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2025, at his home.

Chuck was a lifelong resident of Johnson City, born on August 23, 1976, to Edward Charles Whitson, Jr. and Carolyn Byers Grindstaff. He attended Daniel Boone High School. Chuck lived in South Carolina for twelve years before returning to his hometown.

He took great pride in his work as a tree climber and was known for his strong work ethic. In his free time, Chuck enjoyed fishing, reading, and witnessing for the Lord. He was a man of deep Christian faith and lived his life devoted to serving God.

Chuck was especially proud of his son, Shaun Christopher Edward Whitson, who meant the world to him.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ed Whitson, Sr., and his maternal grandfather, Jim Byers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his parents, Edward Charles Whitson, Jr. and Carolyn Byers Grindstaff; his son, Shaun Christopher Edward Whitson; his sister, Heather (Tray) Buck; his niece, Laurel Buck; his paternal grandmother, Doris Whitson; his maternal grandmother, Linda Byers; his aunt, Crystal Leach; and many extended family members.
