Ellen Baran Stahl

Ellen Baran Stahl, age 96, passed away on Thursday evening, the 24th of September 2026, in Johnson City, Tennessee after a long life. She was of the Catholic faith. Daughter of Mary Furman Baran, a homemaker, and Joseph David Baran, a coal miner, Ellen was born on the 6th of December 1929 in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Verna, her aunt, Sophia Furman, and her husband of 61 years, Charles J Stahl, III MD USN (ret.), who she married on the 20th of November 1954 in Philadelphia.

Ellen was a 1947 graduate of Newport Township High School in Glen Lyon, PA and the Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia where she became a Registered Nurse in 1950. She began her forty-year career at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, and later served as a Regional Health Nurse for the State of Tennessee and then as a nurse at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

Throughout her life, Ellen loved to travel and lived with her family in six different states and the US territory of Guam in the Western Pacific. Ellen is survived by her family. A son: Charles Stahl and his wife Janet of Johnson City, TN, and daughters: Marcia and husband John Scott of Dagsboro, DE; Kim and husband Walter Dryfoos of Allentown, PA, and six grandchildren: Shane Scott and wife Karine, Troy Scott, Victoria Stahl, Joseph Stahl and fiancé Shiori Miyamoto, Christopher Dryfoos and wife Kelsey, and Nicholas Dryfoos; and great grandchildren: Tyler Scott, Kane Scott, and Kyle Scott.

Ellen will be interred beside her husband at a graveside service to be determined later at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
