Emma Fernandez, 93, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2026.

Born in Puerto Rico, Emma was raised with a strong sense of faith, family, and perseverance. At the age of 14, she moved to New York City, where she built the foundation for a life marked by devotion and love. After graduating from high school, she worked as a keypunch operator for IBM before marrying the love of her life, Frederick Fernandez. Together they embraced the adventures and sacrifices of military life, traveling throughout the country as they faithfully supported their family wherever they were called.

Emma found her greatest joy in caring for those she loved. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she created a home filled with warmth, comfort, and delicious meals that brought family together around the table. Her remarkable cooking, beautiful flower gardens, and daily ritual of reading the local newspaper reflected her appreciation for both life’s simple pleasures and the world around her.

Above all, Emma’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a faithful prayer warrior whose quiet strength, unwavering trust in God, and compassionate spirit touched everyone who knew her. Her prayers, encouragement, and unconditional love will remain a lasting legacy for her family and friends.

Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Juanita and Desi Rodriguez; her beloved husband, Frederick Fernandez; her sister, Carmine Huber; and her cherished grandson, Trevor Kirchmeier.

She leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory, including her daughters, Debbie Kirchmeier and Janice Fernandez; her sons, Steven Fernandez and Tommy Fernandez; one brother; four sisters; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Though they grieve her passing, they find comfort in the countless memories she created and the faith she so faithfully lived.

The family will hold a private celebration of Emma’s life.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Emma’s memory are invited to plant a flower in their own garden—a living tribute to the beauty, kindness, and love she cultivated throughout her life.
