Ernest Heaton, 77, of 313 Chambers Drive, Elizabethton, died Monday, February 9, 2009 at the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was a native of Harlan, Kentucky, son of the late Dud and Tilda Johnson Heaton. Ernest was a retired mechanic for the Herb and Metal Company in Elizabethton. He was a member of the Zion Baptist Church. Ernest had served in the U. S. Army as a Corporal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Heaton; two brothers, Charles and Mack Heaton and a sister, Grace Shepherd. Survivors include: hi wife, Georgia Heaton of Johnson City; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Terry Rice of Johnson City; a grandson, Jeremy Heaton of Elizabethton; three sisters, Omay Coleman of Hampton, Georgia Moore of Bristol, Virginia and Mary Tweed of Delaware; a brother, Jimmy Heaton of Hampton. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. in the North Chapel of the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home under the direction of Pastor Bob Allen. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until time of service at eight. A committal service will be conducted on Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the Kingsport VFW #3382 and will also serve as active pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the Morris '' Baker Funeral Home to leave in procession by 10:30 a.m.
