 John C. George, Jr., 65, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord on April 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

John was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 18, 1958 to John C. George, Sr. and Jane Alice Knott George. He was raised in Roanoke, Alabama. He was a graduate of Handley High School in 1977, where he was an All-State Drummer. 

John proudly served and retired from the United States Army in 2002 after 20 years of honorable service. He was the recipient of the Audey Murphy Medal and was a 3-time Corp Mortar Champion. After his military career, John became employed by the Veteran’s Health Administration, retiring as the Mobility Manager in 2023.

He lived a life marked by the love of family, love of life, patriotism, compassion, resilience, and faith. He would go out of his way to help anyone in need, especially soldiers and the handicapped.

Along with his parents, John (1972) and Jane (2003) George, John is preceded in death by his two brothers, Patrick George (2012) and Brian George (2023).

Those remaining to cherish his memory include: his loving wife, Cathryn Keyser George; three sons, John C. George III, Brian P. George, and Stephen J. Winkler; one daughter, Renee J. Krampetz (husband Scott); four adoring grandchildren, Adeline, Amelia, Scotty, and Ariana; one special niece, Allison George (Tim Kates); a sister-in-law, Gail Keyser (Andy); as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home.

A funeral service honoring John is scheduled the following morning at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. The committal service will be held at 10:00 AM at the Mountain Home National Cemetery Historic Section. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 9:50 AM.
