Flora Izzo, 79, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at her home with her loving husband, Pat, by her side.
Flora was born on October 8, 1946, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, to the late Alfred and Mary (Ferry) Correia. She grew up in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, where she met the love of her life at the age of three-a love that would last a lifetime. She graduated from Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in Dighton, Massachusetts.
Following high school, Flora began her career as an administrative assistant with Allendale Insurance in Rhode Island. During the 1970s, she reconnected with her childhood playmate, Pat, and the two were married on May 21, 1977. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and adventure.
Flora and Pat moved to New Jersey, where she continued her work with Allendale Insurance, before relocating to Maryland in 1979. There, she worked with the University of Maryland's Sea Grant Program. In 1983, they moved to Rochester, New York, where Flora worked in Career Services and Placement Department at the University of Rochester. After two snowy winters, they returned to Maryland, where they would make their home for more than forty years.
While in Maryland, Flora became an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, an international women's friendship organization that reflected her warm and welcoming spirit. She worked for Aeronautical Radio, Incorporated (ARINC) for 22 years, where she was promoted to Quality Control Specialist-a role she truly loved. She later continued her career in quality control with the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, retiring in 2012.
In 2020, drawn by the beauty of the mountains and the warmth of the community, Flora and Pat moved to Johnson City, Tennessee, where they shared six wonderful years together. She was very involved in both the Johnson City Women's Club and the Willow Springs women's community, forming meaningful friendships and remaining active in her community. They were also devoted members of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Flora found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved word searches and crossword puzzles, camping in their RV, and traveling-especially trips to Florida to visit friends and stays in National Park campgrounds. She had a special love for her Norwegian Forest Cats, Baby and especially Aleksia.
Above all, Flora cherished her time with Pat. Their love story, which began in childhood, was one of deep devotion and companionship. They were truly soulmates-inseparable in life and forever connected in love.
Left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of 48 years, Pat; several cousins; and a host of friends including, MariAnn Ramsey, Patti Brorby, and Jean Leach.
A visitation and reception to honor Flora's life will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Dustin Collins officiating. A committal service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain Home National Cemetery; those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter.
