Garfie William Johnson, 97, 1708 Lester Harris Rd., died Friday, March 04, 2005, at the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Unicoi County, Mr. Johnson had lived in Johnson City since 1932. He was a son of the late Greenberry and Jane (Davis) Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Johnson City Church of God. He retired from Leon-Fernbach as a maintenance supervisor after many years of service. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and T.L. Gouge; two granddaughters, Christine Gouge and Brenda Gouge; all four of his sisters, Goldie Burke, Nora Campbell, Mamie Mosier, and Elsie Orr; and both brothers, Howard Johnson and Earl Johnson. Survivors include his wife of seventy-four years, Sylvia Hicks Johnson of the home; two daughters and son-in-law, Georgia 'Marie' and Jack Cope, Southgate, MI, and Charlotte 'Jean' McInturff, Johnson City; a son and daughter-in-law, William H. and Betty Johnson, also of Johnson City; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great- grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Garfie W. Johnson will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2005, at 8:00 PM from the Johnson City Church of God. Rev. C. Bryant Collins will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens on Monday, March 7, 2005, at 10:00 AM. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 9:50 AM.
