Hazel Louise Clampitt Gwaltney, 93, of Johnson City, passed away on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at Franklin Woods Community hospital. She was a native of Franklin, North Carolina, and a daughter of the late Norman and Pearl Cochran Clampitt. She was a full-time wife and mother. After her children were grown, she enjoyed an eighteen-and-a-half-year career at The Remnant Shop. She was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gwaltney; brothers, Eugene Clampitt and Robert Clampitt; sisters, Virgie Baldwin, Arbutus Shuler, and Gertrude Clampitt; and son-in-law, Ron Vance. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn Vance; son, Ron Gwaltney and his wife Tammy; grandchildren, Christina Gwaltney, Roy Vance, Zachary Vance and his fianc? Danelle Hennings; brother-in-law, Marcel Shuler; sister-in-law, Rose Gwaltney; and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks is extended to the caring staff of Franklin Woods Community Hospital, and the Waters at Roan Mountain. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, December 17, 2018, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Jayson Hoagland of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. A committal will be held immediately afterward at 1:00 PM, at Roselawn Memory Gardens.
