Hobert W. Stanley, 69, 206 Mosier Road, Johnson City died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Stanley was a native of Carter County and had lived in Johnson City most of his life. He was a son of the late Jess and Lura Stanley. Mr. Stanley was a self-employed heavy equipment mechanic and operator for most of his life. He was the definition of a 'Good Samaritan', and has helped more family, friends, and strangers then could ever be mentioned. Mr. Stanley is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bernice Stanley, four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include: two sons and daughter-in-law, Hobie and Shannon Stanley, Percy Stanley all of Watauga; two daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Ronnie Johnson of Ohio, Tammy and Charles Norman of Johnson City; six grandchildren, Charlie Norman, Josh Norman, Sam Lyons II, Autumn Stanley, Chelsea Stanley, and Brandon Stanley; two great grandchildren, Cody Holt and Bronson Norman; two brothers, Billy Ray Stanley and J.D. Stanley, both of Elizabethton; three sisters, Wilma Greene, Jeanette Ford, both of Elizabethton and Hazel Little of Johnson City; a very special friend, Linda Persinger. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Hobert W. Stanley will be conducted at 8 PM Sunday, April 24, 2005 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Ken Hauser and Rev. Paul Crowe will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 AM Monday in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:50 AM. Active pallbearers will be Mr. Stanley?s grandsons, Charlie Norman, Brandon Stanley, Joshua Norman, Sam Lyons, a nephew Nathan McDuffie, and Jeremy Holloway, with alternate pallbearers Ed McDuffie and Jeremy McDuffie. Honorary pallbearers will be Gaylord Hyder, Junior Trivette, John Hodge, Archie Robinson, Jamie Kegley, Junior Osborne, Frank Whitson, Euell Little, Bruce Radford, and a host of lifelong friends to numerous to name. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 5 to 8 PM Sunday, prior to the service.
