Mr. Howard Preston Gibson, 84, Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, April 18,2010 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mr. Gibson was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton. He was the son of the late John Pierce Gibson and Sarah Carr Gibson. In addition to his parents one son, Donnie Gene Gibson; two sisters, Iva Jean Canova and Elizabeth Gibson; eight brothers, William Blain 'Bill'? Gibson, Paul Gibson, Henry 'Hoot'? Gibson, Bobby Gibson, Billy Joe Gibson, Daniel Gibson, Jim Gibson and Clifton Gibson; one great grandson, Brandon Cope; one son-in-law, Joe Johnson also preceded him in death. Mr. Gibson was a US Navy veteran of WWII. He retired from the Maintenance Department at East Tennessee State University in 1990. Mr. Gibson was of the Pentecostal faith. Survivors include: his wife, Judy Gibson of the home; three daughters, Mary Johnson of Springfield, Ohio, Carolyn Howington and her husband Joe of Erwin and Sandra Price and her husband Tony of Elizabethton; three sons, Roger Gibson and his wife Edna of Johnson City, Dale Gibson and his wife Linda of Elizabethton and Johnny H. Gibson and his wife Donna of Hampton; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Mr. Howard Preston Gibson will be conducted at 8 PM Wednesday, April 21, 2010 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel. Rev. Clarence Taylor and Rev. Jay Blyth will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. The Boone Dam Post # 4933 and the Tennessee National Guard will accord military honors. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 PM Thursday to go in procession. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service.
