Jackie Ann McElyea, 77, of Jonesborough, Tennessee, went home to Heaven to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Sunday, July 5, 2026.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." — 2 Timothy 4:7
Jackie was born on October 18, 1948, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to the late Roy and Pauline Story.
As teenagers, Jackie met the love of her life, James, and together they built a beautiful life, sharing 60 wonderful years filled with love, faith, and devotion to one another. Jackie dedicated her life to caring for her family as a homemaker and was a constant source of love, strength, and encouragement to those she held dear.
For more than 20 years, Jackie was a faithful member of Pine Crest Christian Church, where her unwavering faith was evident in the way she lived and loved others. She found great joy tending to her flowers, especially her cherished roses, and was known for her remarkable green thumb. Above all, Jackie treasured her role as "Nana." Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she delighted in every opportunity to love, encourage, and spend time with them.
In addition to her parents, Jackie was preceded in death by her son, Allen Hall; brothers, Bernie Story and Wayne Story; and sister, Betty Morin.
Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband of 60 years, James McElyea; children, Tim McElyea and Tammy (Shane) Riddell; grandchildren, Cody Riddell, Damien (Jess) McElyea, Dalton McElyea, Devin McElyea, and Gabby McElyea; great-grandson, Allen Grey McElyea; brother, Gary (Teresa) Story; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever remember her love and kindness.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Johnson City Medical Center's Seventh Floor and NHC HealthCare for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided Jackie during her illness. Your dedication and compassion will always be remembered with sincere appreciation.
Jackie's family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Roy Lowe officiating. A committal service will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens in the Mausoleum.
