James Millard Lynch, age 81 of Jonesborough, Tennessee passed away at Johnson City Medical Center on January 31, 2026. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on December 12, 1944.
He was raised in Piney Flats, and graduated from Mary Hughes High School in 1964. One month after graduation James went to work for the Kingsport Press, where he retired from after 42 years of dedicated service. During his career he was able to travel extensively throughout the globe. He was an E5 in the National Reserve for 6 years.
James' hobbies included being a master craftsman, particularly woodworking, building his own log home, playing basketball, running and staying healthy, and in his later years making carpenter bee traps. He was a faithful member of Fountain of Life Bible Church for many years, where he and his wife, Brenda were responsible for planting the flowers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Lynch, and mother, Sophie Lynch, and brother, Denny Lynch.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Brenda Lynch, sons, Lee Jay (Gina) Lynch, and Matthew (Tara) Lynch; grandchildren, Taylor Lynch and Andrew Lynch, brother, Kyle (Linda) Lynch, and nephew, Chad Lynch.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff, 4th floor staff of Johnson City Medical Center, chaplain, Wanda, and the many ministers and friends for their thoughts and prayers.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a local charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00pm with Dr. Vic Young officiating. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 1:00pm in New Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 592 New Bethel Rd. Piney Flats, TN 37686 all attending are asked to meet no later than 12:50pm.
