Jean Hayes Young

Jean Hayes Young, 86, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 3, 2026, following a courageous battle with cancer. While her family grieves her earthly absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she has won the ultimate victory, is completely healed, and now rests in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born on December 30, 1939, in Gainesville, Georgia, Jean was the beloved daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hayes. A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, Jean's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She faithfully served for many years as District Manager for the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, where she earned the admiration and respect of colleagues through her professionalism, integrity, and unwavering work ethic.

To know Jean was to love her. She embodied the grace and elegance, yet her greatest beauty was found in her heart. She possessed a rare gift for making everyone feel welcomed, valued, and genuinely loved. Through quiet acts of kindness, steadfast faith, and unwavering compassion, she reflected Christ's love to all who had the privilege of knowing her. The world was undoubtedly a more beautiful place because of her presence.

Jean also had a lifelong love for the game of golf. Whether enjoying a friendly round with family and friends for quarters—and more often than not, winning—or simply spending time on the course, golf brought her immense joy and lifelong friendships. She approached the game with the same grace, determination, and joyful spirit that characterized every aspect of her life.

Above all, Jean's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Douglas Young; her children, Robyn Wilson (Susan Cregor), Yvonne Fritz (Craig Fritz), and Yorke Young (Lori Young); her grandchildren, Alexis Greene (Nicholas Greene), Brandon Fox, Wesley Wilson (Mary Ann Wilson), Chloe Young, Sophia Crowe (Michael Crowe), Kyle Fritz, Laney Fritz, her precious great-grandchildren, Henley Greene and Judah Crowe; and many extended family members and cherished friends.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends are asked to meet at Monte Vista Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, for the graveside service.
