Jimmy R. Broce, age 94 of Johnson City, formerly of Bristol, went home to be with His Lord on July 3, 2026 at the James Quillen Veterans Medical Center. He was born on June 26, 1932 in Sullivan County, Tennessee to the late Joseph Ray and Callie Phillips Broce.
He was number seven of eight children. Jimmy was a lifetime member of United Methodist Paperville Church in Bristol, Tennessee. He was most recently a member and Deacon at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church in Bristol, Tennessee. He loved to sing and play harmonica at church and was often the orator.
He was a proud United States Marine, serving during the Korean War. Jimmy loved to travel and he loved to stay active, body building in his younger years, running, swimming, motorcycling with family and friends, and hunting. He enjoyed fellowship, spending time with family and friends, always earning the title as historian.
In addition to his parents, Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Katie Wheeler Broce, son, James "Bo" Broce, siblings, Armon Broce, Berta Lynn Garruto, Helen Gaston, Wanda Glovier, Eleanor Mays, and Joseph "Joe" Broce.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Donna (Rodney) Beverly and Pamela (Doug Henry) Harris; Grandchildren, Michele Meade, Benjamin "Jamie" (April) Meade, Maranda (Jeff) Dean, and James Broce; great-grandchildren, Hunter Dean, Peyton Meade, Koby Dean, Kaleb Dean, Levi Meade, Nealand Meade, and Asher Bright; great, great-grandchildren, Adalynn Dean and Theodore "Teddy" Dean, and sister, Carolyn Broce-Baldwin. He is also survived by special friends, Meredith Corvin, Valerie Morrell, Benjamin (Gerri) Meade, and Ken Lytton, and well as several ohter relatives, nieces, and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Gary Sinise Foundation.
The family will receive friends from 10:30am until 12:00pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home on Thursday, July 9, 2026. A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1:00pm in Mountain Home National Cemetery all attending are asked to meet at the cemetery no later than 12:50pm. Pastor Chad Vance will be officiating.
