John Raymond Gibson III, 60, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 20, 2026, with his loving wife by his side.
John was born on November 4, 1965, in Long Beach, California, to the late John Raymond Gibson, Jr. and Anona Johnson Gibson Smith. He was deeply proud of his education, earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Utah and his master’s degree from the University of Phoenix.
John met his sweetheart, Anne, in Wilmington, Delaware. They quickly became dear friends and were married on January 8, 1987. They began their family in Southern California and later raised their children in Utah before eventually settling in East Tennessee, where their youngest found a home for them all.
John cherished every role in his life — husband, father, brother, and friend — but he especially treasured his final and most beloved calling as “Papa.” He had a passion for movies, particularly horror films, and was a highly skilled plastic model maker. Artistic and creative, John excelled in painting and drawing and was an avid reader throughout his life.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 39 years, Anne Gibson; his children, Kimberly Anne Gibson; John Raymond Gibson IV and wife, Amanda; and Cheryl Marie Petersen and husband, Travis; his adored grandchildren; his brother, Rob Gibson; and his sister, Julie Peck and husband, Dean.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to arrive at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses. Memories and condolences may be shared with the Gibson family at Morris-Baker Funeral Home at www.morrisbaker.com.
