With deep sadness, we share the passing of John R Burnette III, better known as James, a devoted father, son, friend, faithful servant and fiancée who left us on April 16, 2026, at the age of 36.
Born in Johnson City to John R Burnette JR and Marsha Hissom, James grew up learning the construction trade alongside his father, a local developer, acquiring the skills and work ethic that would shape his life. He went on to work in the HVAC trade where he holds his mechanical contractor’s license and proudly built his own business, JA Mechanical, LLC.
Above all else, he was a devoted father to his sons, Jacob and Jaxson Burnette, whom he loved beyond measure. His greatest joys in life were playing basketball with them, taking trips and creating lasting adventures together. The countless pictures on his phone show the treasured memories they made together and that will carry them throughout the rest of their lives.
He shared a deep and meaningful love with his fiancée and wife of his heart, Adrienne Weaver. Though they had known each other for many years, they found their way to one another only four years ago, building a bond rooted in love, friendship, and unwavering support for each other’s dreams and passions.
He also shared an unbreakable bond with his best friend, Thomas Adams, whom he met at the age of 18. Together, they created countless memories on the golf course and were master of ceremonies to unforgettable Fourth of July celebrations.
He is survived by: his beloved sons, Jacob and Jaxson Burnette; his fiancée and wife of his heart, Adrienne Weaver; his parents, John R Burnette Jr, and Marsha Hissom; his longtime stepmother and friend, Anita; his grandmother, Alene “Nana” Burnette, with whom he shared many cherished childhood moments; his grandparents, Shelia and Eddie Renfro; his best friend and brother of his heart, Thomas Adams; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family.
A celebration of Jame’s life will be held on Saturday, May 2nd at Crossroads Christian Church, 1300 Suncrest Drive, Gray, TN 37615, at 1:30, where his family and friends will gather to share food, stories, laughter, and memories of a man whose life was far too short, but whose impact will last forever.
James had a deep respect and admiration for all first responders and those who put their lives before their own, like his brother Thomas. So, to honor that love the family request donations in leu of flowers be made to Bristol Life Saving Crew, 1601 Euclid Ave, Bristol, VA 24201.
