John Michael Townsend

On Friday evening, November 24, 2023, John Michael Townsend, 74, of Johnson City, was granted his blessing of Heaven.

John was born February 8, 1949, to the late Ford and Fay Townsend. He was a 1967 graduate of Happy Valley High School, and a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. John was a former member of the Central Volunteer Fire Department.

John is survived by two sons, John Paul Townsend of Johnson City and Michael Townsend of Jonesborough; grandson, Hunter Townsend; brothers, Steve (and Patti) of Johnson City and Tom (and Kathy) of Oliver Springs, TN; eight great-grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews; two great nieces; three great nephews; and his special companion, Rascal. He is also survived by his wife, Mitzi Townsend; stepdaughter, Jill Coggins Hatley (Chad); and step-grandchildren, Zachery Coggins and Savannah Jenkins (Nathan).

John’s family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday, December 1, 2023, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with a funeral immediately following, at 6:00 pm. A committal service will commence at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those attending the graveside are asked to please meet at the cemetery by 12:50 pm. Pallbearers will be selected from the family.
