Listen to Obituary

Kenneth James Jenkins, age 61, of Johnson City, Tennessee, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

A lifelong resident of Johnson City, Kenneth was born on June 17, 1964, to the late Ernest Hardin Jenkins and Margaret Elizabeth Widener Jenkins. He graduated from Science Hill High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division—an experience he held with deep pride throughout his life.

On October 23, 1999, Kenneth married the love of his life, Carolyn Kay Cole. Together, they shared a life grounded in faith and love. They are faithful members of Sinking Creek Baptist Church.

Kenneth worked as a woodworker for R.A. Colby for over 30 years—a craft and career he genuinely loved. Outside of work, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, horseback riding, and working with cattle.

Kenneth was known for being the best husband, unwavering in his faith, and, at times, wonderfully bullheaded. His strong spirit, warm heart, and steadfast character touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several siblings: Fred Jenkins, Hardin Jenkins, Betty Thompson, Jerry Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, Barbara Jenkins, and Brenda Jenkins. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 25 years, Carolyn Jenkins; siblings: Ronnie Jenkins, Carol Maupin, Nancy Bellamy, and Deborah Childress; very special sister, Cathy Minga; special brothers, Danny Coffie and Charles “Chummy” Maupin, special friends, Jay and Catherine Bailey; and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth’s family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, with a funeral immediately following at 7:00 p.m., under the direction of Pastor Chuck Babb. A committal service will commence at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Mountain Home National Cemetery (Historic section).
