Laura Lavinder Lawrence

Laura Lavinder Lawrence, 98, of 1301 Welbourne Street, Johnson City died Wednesday, December 26, 2007 in the North Side Hospital. Mrs. Lawrence was a native of Bristol, Virginia who had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Kate Hayes Lavinder. In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her husband, Richard N. Lawrence, Sr.; two sisters, Alys Gammon and Katherine Woodward. Mrs. Lawrence was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. She was one of the last surviving members of the 'Sewing Club'?, founded in the 1930s by a group of young newlyweds. The club met weekly until the 1990s to share food, recipes and provide friendship and support. Survivors include: one son, Richard N. Lawrence, Jr. and his wife Betty of Huntsville, AL; one daughter, Linda L. Buchanan and her husband Earl of Johnson City; six grandchildren, Laura Johnston of Knoxville, Melissa D. Buchanan of Johnson City, Scott R. Buchanan of Gray, David Lawrence of Atlanta, Katherine Cowen and Carol M. Lawrence, both of Huntsville, AL.; seven great grandchildren; three special caregivers, Quinn Evans, Peggy Lovelace and Louise Lewis. A committal service for Laura Lavinder Lawrence will be conducted at 11 AM Friday, December 28, 2007 in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Rev. Michael Lester will officiate. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 AM Friday for the service. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 PM Friday at the Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with a Memorial Service to follow at 3 PM in the Church. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church Pre-School, 201 East Market Street, Johnson City, TN 37601.
