Lockey Carr

Lockey A. Carr, 87, of Johnson City, TN, passed away peacefully at Johnson City Medical Center on Tuesday, August 12, 2026, surrounded by family. She was born on August 2, 1939, in Faraday, WV, the youngest of 8 children to parents she dearly loved—Frank and Maggie Weaver Large. Lockey was raised in the coal camps of McDowell County, WV, where her Dad worked in area coal mines in and around Amonate, VA. When she was a teenager, her parents moved to nearby Wyoming County, WV, where she attended 11th and 12th grade at Pineville High School, graduating in 1957.

Lockey moved with her parents to Johnson City, TN, in 1959. She attended the Practical Nursing Training program at the Johnson City Vocational School and graduated in April 1962. In 1970, she married Charles E. Carr Sr. They were married until he unexpectedly passed away in August 1988. She was employed at local nursing homes and home health agencies as an LPN until she retired.

Lockey was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, wife, and mother. She was kind, caring, hardworking, and so much fun, keeping us laughing with every visit and wanting more.

Her life was one full of love and faith. A devoted Christian, she attended Piney Flats First Baptist Church until, with advancing age, she was unable. She enjoyed reading and studying her Bible, loved watching Charles Stanley, listening to her Christian music, watching old TV shows, but most of all loved visiting and laughing with family and friends. This is a tribute to an amazing woman who was greatly loved and will be missed beyond measure.

Lockey is survived by son Charles E. Carr Jr.; stepdaughter Diane Bishop; nieces and nephews Cheryl Holland, Barbara Patrick, Eddie Meade, Bill Meade, Dee Dee Meade, Donna Buckles, Sandy Robertson, Cathy Melvin, Debra Fortenberry, Mark Large; and special friends Darla Miller, Sybil Forten, Barbara and Jerre Whitson.

She was preceded in death by parents Frank and Maggie Weaver Large; husband Charles E. Carr, Sr.; and siblings infant brother Billy Edward Large, Edith Meade, Marie Albano, Mary Ann Brown, Charlie Large, Alice Stevenson; and stepson Rick Carr.

Graveside services will be held at Monte Vista Memorial Park on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 2:00 pm, under the direction of Pastor Estel Williams. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Samaritan’s Purse. A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Johnson City Medical Center and Amedisys Hospice who provided great care during her stay there.
