Mallene Ramsey

Anita Mallene Whitson Shelton Ramsey, of Unicoi, Tennessee, was born on April 25, 1957, and passed away on July 1, 2026 while surrounded by her family. She was a devoted Wife, Mom, Sister, Nana and Great Nana.

Known as Mallene to her family and friends, she was raised in East Tennessee and graduated from Unicoi County High School. She attended East Tennessee State University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Commercial Art. She and her family relocated to Southeast Virginia in 1989, where they lived for many years before returning home to Erwin, Tennessee, in 2006.

Mallene was devoted to her faith in Jesus and was an active member of Unicoi Christian Church. She loved being in the mountains. She was most relaxed on weekend trips to Townsend, TN with her husband David. Mallene was an exceptional artist. One of her greatest joys was spending countless hours creating extremely detailed baskets, drawings, and paintings. She adored her kids and grandkids. She proudly supported them in all things, including sports, music, and art. She also had a love for the Native American culture and supported different charity programs. Mallene was loved deeply by her family and will be remembered for the life she shared with those closest to her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Mallene is survived by her husband of 9 years David A. Ramsey; three children, Floyd Shelton Jr. (Myca), Chassidy Shelton, and Robbie Shelton; five grandchildren, Anastasia Fusco (Hunter), Caitlyn Shelton, Keith Shelton, Hope Shelton, and Dylan Shelton; and one great-grandson, Jameson Fusco, Sister Pam Edwards and (JD), and along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mallie and Juanita Whitson, and her sister, Judy Jones.

The family will cherish her memory and the love she gave throughout her life. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Unicoi Christian Church for the benefit of "Operation Christmas Child" shoebox program. Mallene was very passionate about this program and put careful thought into the shoeboxes and the items that would bring the children the most joy.

A Celebration of Life service for Mallene will be held at Unicoi Christan Church on Sunday July 5th. The family will receive guests at 3:00 PM with a service to follow at 4:00 PM at 417 Tennessee St, Unicoi Tennessee 37692.
