Martha Belle Allen Scherer

Martha Belle Byrd Allen Scherer, age 97, died Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Appalachian Christian Village. She was a resident of Appalachian Christian Village for the past 25 years. Mrs. Scherer was preceded in death by husbands, Dr. Charles E. Allen, Louisville, KY, and B. Morgan Scherer, Johnson City, TN, and her parents, Arthur and Clara Walker Byrd of Bristol, TN. She is survived by sons, Charles E. Allen Jr. and his wife, Gracie, Nashville, TN, and Thomas Byrd Allen and his wife, Ruth, Louisville, KY; five grandchildren, Tom Allen, David Allen and Jenny Cunningham of Nashville, TN, and Ted Allen and John Allen of Louisville, KY; five great-grandchildren, Jack Edward and Catherine Allen, Grace Ann and Molly Cunningham, Nashville, and Jack Allen, Louisville; and special friends, Janet Payne and Tim Mullins of Johnson City. Mrs. Scherer was a 1927 graduate of Virginia Intermont College, Bristol, TN. She was active in women?s work at 4th Ave. Presbyterian Church and Hope Presbyterian Church in Louisville, KY. She was a member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church, Johnson City, TN. Interment will be later in Louisville, KY.
