Michael Angelo Carrubba, 68, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on June 5, 2025. Born on October 18, 1956, in Germany, he was the son of the late Angelo Joseph Carrubba Sr. and Vera Erna Carrubba.
Michael retired after many dedicated years serving as a correctional officer with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he also served as a union representative, advocating for his colleagues and ensuring their voices were heard. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he was deeply involved in Alcoholics Anonymous for 46 years, embodying his belief in helping others and giving back to the community. A member of the Unity Church of Sarasota, Michael found spiritual solace and fellowship, further reflecting his compassionate and service-oriented nature.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gretchen Carrubba; brothers Angelo Joseph Carrubba Jr. (Tina), Ronald Steven Carrubba (Cherie), and Timothy James Carrubba (Tammy); sister-in-law Leah Kelsey Sams; mother-in-law Sharon Davies Kelsey; stepson David Israel Gately; nieces and nephews: Brent, Norrah, Oaklee, Pierce, Kelly, Eli, Leo, Tracy, Jack, Daniel, Amy, Jennifer, Emily, Taylor, Marie, Trenton, Benjamin, and Evan, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Carol Charlotte Carrubba, and his late wife, Nancy Carrubba.
A memorial service will be held to honor Michael's life and legacy at 4:00 pm on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City, Tennessee. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service beginning at 3:00 pm. Michael will be privately laid to rest in The Mountain Home National Cemetery.
