Millard E. Phipps, 72, 1817 Mary Street, Johnson City died Saturday, April 23, 2005 in the Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Phipps was a native of Johnson City, had lived in Chicago for fifteen years and returned to Johnson City in 1969. He was a son of the late Will and Ethel Jilton Phipps. Mr. Phipps was a retired dockhand with the Navaho Freight Co and International Harvester in Chicago. He was a Army veteran and a member of the Piney Grove F.W.B. Church. Mr. Phipps in preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bobbie Jo Smalling Phipps in 2001 and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Millard and Terry Phipps, Jr. of Elizabethton,Kathy Phipps of Johnson City; three daughters and sons-in--law, Donna and Charles Lynn McInturff of Jonesborough, Sharon Phipps of Rogersville, Connie and Perry Allen of Jonesborough; six grandchildren, Michael McInturff, Stacy Shelton, Kelli Wilhoit, Matt Allen, Tonda Morton, and Tory Morton; two great grandchildren,Tegan Higgins andTrevor Grubbs; two brothers, Bill Phipps of Chicago, IL and Adron Phipps of Elizabethton; five sisters, Etta Richardson of Erwin, Carolyn Wyatt of Gray, Dorothy Greenberg of Chicago, Evelyn Chesser of Elizabethton and Jeanette Honeycutt of Gray. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Millard E. Phipps will be conducted at 8 PM Monday, April 25, 2005 in the Morris-Baker South Chapel . Rev. Paul Crowe will officiate. The graveside service will be conducted at 10 AM Tuesday in the Mountain Home National Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:30 AM to go in procession. Military Honors will be accorded at the graveside by the VFW Post # 3382 and the Tennessee National Guard of Kingsport. Active pallbearers will be nephews.
