Minnie “Jane” Hensley, 94, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and formerly of Morristown and Johnson City, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Jane was born on April 28, 1931, in Yancey County, North Carolina, to the late Norman Glenn Pierce and Dora Ann Bailey Pierce. She attended Columbus Powell Elementary and Science Hill High School and later graduated from Steed College of Technology.
On December 19, 1955, she married the love of her life, Billy Gene “Bill” Hensley. Together they built a life centered on faith and family, raising three children: Deborah, Landon, and Rebecca. During Bill’s service in the United States Air Force, the family traveled until 1964, when they returned to Johnson City. There, they became devoted and active members of Roan Hill Baptist Church, where Jane’s passion for missions and teaching children and youth flourished.
In 1974, the family moved to Morristown, where she continued her faithful service at Pleasant View Baptist Church and later at Lake Shore Road Baptist Church. In her later years, Jane moved to Knoxville to be closer to family and attended Broadway Baptist Church, where her son-in-law, Timothy Turley, serves as pastor.
Jane worked as an office manager at Swift Independent Packing Company and later retired from Philips Consumer Electronics. She was known for her warm spirit, her love for her church, and her deep devotion to her family.
She also had a special love for the Atlanta Braves and rarely missed a game. One of her most cherished memories was celebrating her 88th birthday with VIP treatment at a Braves game. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—especially ice cream, time with loved ones, and cheering on her favorite team.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Bill Hensley; her brother, J.D. Pierce; and her sister, Kathryn Trendel.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Debbie (Tim) Turley, Landon (Aleyda) Hensley, and Becky Mominee; her grandchildren: Jason Hensley, Matthew Hensley, Robert Hensley, Van (Jessica) Mominee, Jr., Katie (Mikey) Clevenger, Alyssa Turley, Karenna Turley, and Olivia (Ries) Troutman; her great-grandchildren: Savannah and Brendan Hensley, Kiersten Turley, Everett, Wren, and Annelise Troutman, and Emma Jane and Tripp Clevenger; her sister, Maxine Harrell; and several nieces and nephews.
Jane will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her servant’s heart, and the love she so freely gave to her family and all who knew her.
Jane’s family will receive friends from 10:30-11:00 am on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following, under the direction of Pastor Tim Turley. A graveside service will commence at 12:00 pm, at Monte Vista Memorial Park. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are directed to Broadway Baptist Church: 815 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917.
