Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mrs. Mona Ernestine Bramlett Sweeney, who went to be with her Savior on June 27, 2026 at the age of 87. She was born on November 3, 1938 to the late Ernest Milton Bramlett and Margarette Louise Haynes Bramlett in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

Mona was a lifelong member at Oak Street Baptist Church in Elizabethton. More than anything she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and sharing His Word.

She worked for many years serving the community. Mona worked at East Tennessee Undergarment for 25 years, Massengil's Specialty Shop, Leta's Specialty Shop, and Pal's in Elizabethton. She spent her later years wearing many hats in service at Asbury Place in Johnson City.

Some of her favorite things were art, music, and the written word. She especially loved going to the Barter Theater. She loved having her children at her home, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel, walk, share meals and just talk. She spent her Friday afternoons playing cards with her close friends, Jane Smith and Marion Mottern. She was a member of the Elizabethton Book Club.

In addition to her parents, Mona is preceded in death by her loving husband, Gene Sweeney, daughter, Becky Berry, son-in-law, Stanley White, brothers, Ernest Milton Bramlett, Jr. and David Reese Bramlett, and sister, Margarette "Margie" Shipley.
