Listen to Obituary

Patricia “Dawn” Crowder, 87, of Johnson City, went home peacefully on Wednesday morning, May 13, 2026, to be reunited with Gene. She always had a true servant’s heart—never one to seek the spotlight, but always the one quietly making things right. Her greatest passion was serving her Lord and Savior, and her deepest desire was that everyone would come to know the Savior that she loved so dearly. She faithfully studied scripture so she could encourage others in their faith. She loved teaching and sharing the Word of God. One can only imagine her cheeks flushing as she heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant,” as she entered the gates of Heaven.

A lifelong resident of East Tennessee, Dawn was born on February 4, 1939, in Erwin, to the late Paul and Sanorita Birchfield Odom. She graduated from Erwin High School. On September 4, 1958, she married the love of her life, Eugene “Gene” Edward Crowder. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love while raising their two children, Lauren and Matt.

In addition to her parents, Dawn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Gene Crowder.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Lauren (Lisle) Whitman; son, Matt (Michelle) Crowder; grandchildren, Lisle (Mallory) Whitman, Alexa Whitman, Lane Whitman, Will Crowder, and Eli Crowder; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Randall (Regina) Odom and Sherry Odom Penley; sister-in-law, Barbara (Buddy) Odom; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Dawn’s life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Southwestern Baptist Church, 1112 Cherokee Road, Johnson City.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International at gideons.org/donate.
