Robert B. Woody at age 86 of Johnson City, TN passed away on September 29, 2024, from an extended illness. He was born in Bakersville, NC, a son of the late Iss J. and Vaughty Deyton Woody.
He is survived by his wife and soul mate of 66 years, Charlotte Slagle Woody, daughter, Robin Yost, husband, Hank Yost, and granddaughter, Heather Yost of Nolensville, TN; grandsons, Michael and David Woody, and daughter-in-law, Donna Woody of Cumming, GA, sister, Margarett Dugger and husband, Willard Dugger of Johnson City, TN, nephews, Charles Woody, and wife, Tracey; grandnephews, Colton, Caleb and Cameron of Maryville, TN, Brian Woody of Sevierville, Tn, and Ian Jackson of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert B. Woody II and brother, Charles Woody.
Robert attended Boones Creek School in Johnson City, TN and graduated from Eichelberger High School, Hanover, PA. He graduated from East Tennessee State (College) University. Robert was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army through the ETSU ROTC program. He served in the 101st ABN Division, Fort Campbell, KY and the 173rd ABN BDE (Sep) in Okinawa and Vietnam. He was a senior parachutist. He retired from the United States Army Reserve with the rank of Colonel after thirty-seven years of service.
Robert was employed by Eastman Chemical Company, Kingsport, TN. He retired after twenty-eight years as senior accountant. He worked part-time at Tennessee Florist Supply Bristol, TN for thirteen years.
He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Johnson City, TN. He had served as chairman of the elders, treasurer and usher. He enjoyed serving meals at the Melting Pot for many years.
The family would like to thank all the faithful members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church for their many cards, visits and prayers. They would also like to thank their friends and neighbors for their prayers and support. The family would like to thank the Amedysis Hospice team of caregivers for his excellent care as well as the nurses, CNAs and all caregivers of Lakebridge.
Everyone is invited to meet at 3:00 pm in Mountain Home National Cemetery on Monday October 7, 2024, for a graveside Service with Military honors, Rev. Vincent Shemwell will be officiating.
