Roy "Cotton" Nidiffer

Roy “Cotton” Nidiffer was a compassionate and spiritual soul whose love for Mother Nature, his family, and the many people he encountered throughout his life was unmistakable. Cotton lived with a curious heart, an adventurous spirit, and a generous soul, leaving behind not only memories, but stories, laughter, friendships, and a little more love in the world.

After graduating from high school in Jonesboro, Tennessee, Cotton set out to experience life on his own terms. He hitchhiked across 26 states, embracing every opportunity to learn, explore, and meet new people along the way. His adventures brought him countless experiences that eventually became the incredible stories he loved to share. Cotton had a gift for storytelling, and those fortunate enough to hear his tales knew there was always another adventure just around the corner.

Cotton proudly worked as a rigger with I.A.T.S.E., where he helped bring concerts, Broadway productions, and television series to life. His work took him into many different places and introduced him to hundreds of people. Over the years, many of those coworkers and acquaintances became cherished friends and, to Cotton, family. He was also a proud member of B.Y.M. and the Katuah Rainbow Family.

A true “tree hugger” at heart, Cotton found joy in the simple and beautiful things of life. He loved cleaning up the woods, foraging for mushrooms, planting and tending his garden, and caring for the honeybees on his farm. He and his beloved wife, Sami, shared a love of traveling and making memories wherever their adventures took them.

Cotton believed in community and in supporting the people around him. He was passionate about helping his friends' businesses and supporting local communities, always eager to lend a hand or encourage someone else’s dreams. His warmth and unique sense of humor reached far beyond his own hometown. Cotton leaves behind an inside joke that has been shared across the United States and even translated in more than two dozen countries—a fitting reminder of the joy and laughter he brought into the lives of others.

For twelve wonderful years, Cotton shared his life with his devoted wife, Sami. Their years together were filled with love, laughter, travel, adventure, and the countless little moments that make a life meaningful. He also leaves behind a brother, sister, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many dear friends whose lives were made brighter by knowing him.

Cotton was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Shirley; his father, R.C. Nidiffer; and other cherished family members, close friends, and beloved pets. Though his absence will be deeply felt, those who loved him can take comfort in knowing that the spirit of Cotton—the laughter, the stories, the kindness, and the love for the natural world—will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Cotton’s wife, Sami, plans to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. An address has also been established for those wishing to send letters in Cotton’s honor, allowing family and friends to share their memories, stories, and words of love.

Cotton lived boldly, loved deeply, and never stopped exploring the world around him. His life was an adventure, his friendships were treasured, and his heart was always open.

And in true Cotton fashion, his message to all who knew and loved him remains:

“Life’s short. LOVE BIG. E.A.D.”
