Ruth Harris Boyd, 84, 1605 Baxter Street, died Friday, October 7, 2005, at Lakebridge Healthcare Center. Mrs. Boyd was a native of Pensacola, NC, and had lived most of her life in Johnson City. She was a daughter of the late John Henry Harris Sr. and Dollie Whitson Harris, and was also preceded in death by one brother, O.C. Harris; and two sisters, Pauline H. Wyatt and Norma L. Harris. Mrs. Boyd graduated from Appalachian School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She had worked at Memorial Hospital for Dr. Lee K. Gibson and later did private duty nursing. She was member of Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Boyd is survived by her husband, Sherman Boyd; two children, Linda Boyd Brown, Chicago, IL, and John Edward Boyd, of the home; one sister, Barbara Ollis, Jonesborough; two brothers, John H. Harris Jr., Jonesborough, and Clifford M. Harris, Winston-Salem, NC; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mrs. Boyd will be conducted at 11 AM Monday, October 10, 2005, from the Morris-Baker Funeral Home North Chapel. Dr. George Rolling and Rev. Don Fredricks will officiate. Graveside services will follow in Monte Vista Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10 AM Monday until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be John Boyd, Roy Ollis, Allan Brown, Alan Ollis, Vance Cosby and Tommy Jones. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Watauga Avenue Presbyterian Church, 610 E. Watauga Ave., Johnson City, TN 37601.
