Ruth Pierce

Ruth Boyer Pierce, 98, of 342 Pine Hill Road, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at the Ivy Hall Nursing Home. She was a native of Washington County, daughter of the late Pierce and Achsah Sherfey Boyer. Ruth was a teacher in the Washington County school system for 37 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Enos W. Pierce in 1960; a son, Danny M. Pierce; three brothers, Don, Mack and Lake Boyer and a sister, Jo Cunningham. She was a former member of the Lovelace Baptist Church and current member of the Harmony Baptist Church. Ruth also was a member of the Washington County Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #57. Survivors include: her son, James Reuben Pierce of Elizabethton; a grandson, David W. Pierce of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the North Chapel, under the direction of Dr. Michael Oaks. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at eleven. A committal service will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jackie Mullins, P.G. Jones, Danny Jones, Sammy Haren, Kent Walker, Bill Gardner, Bo Wheelock, Allan Ferguson and George Moody.
