Sherry Ann Hughes, 55, of Piney Flats, Tennessee, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.

A lifelong resident of East Tennessee, Sherry was born on October 13, 1970, in Blountville, Tennessee, to Martha Leonard and the late Russell Leonard. She graduated from Sullivan Central High School in 1989.

Sherry married the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Hughes, on July 2, 1994, and together they shared 32 wonderful years of marriage. She worked for Johnson City Ear, Nose, and Throat Associates for more than 22 years and was a longtime member of Edgefield Global Methodist Church.

Sherry enjoyed crafts, shoes, trips to Pigeon Forge, and visiting Amish country. She especially treasured spending weekends shopping with her mother. An animal lover, Sherry enjoyed caring for her pets, especially her cats. She also had a giving heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand to her neighbors.

In addition to her father, Sherry was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Mamie and James Earl Clark; paternal grandparents, William and Virginia Leonard; and mother-in-law, Anetia Hughes.

Those left to cherish Sherry’s memory include her loving husband, Joe Hughes; mother, Martha Leonard; brother, Greg (Ginger) Leonard; nieces, Whitney (Neil) Jackson and Misty (Chip) Harrison; great-nephew, Tanner Jackson; father-in-law, Eric Hughes; godson, Hayden Smith; and special friends, Karen Smith, Jan Weaver, Tammy Berry, Cindy Stroupe, Gail Wilson, Lori Hankes, Helen Houston, and Lisa Feathers, her lifelong hairdresser.

The family would like to thank all of the physicians and staff that cared for Sherry at the Johnson City Medical Center.
