Stanley "Stan" Bruce Whaley, age 72, of Johnson City, Tennessee, was called home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on January 5, 1954, in Jonesborough, Tennessee, Stan was the son of the late Matthew James Whaley and Hazel Eileen Whaley.
Stan was a kind and gentle soul. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and carried that pride throughout his life. Above all, he was a devoted father who loved his daughters more than life itself. He was an especially loving and proud Papaw, cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren.
Stan was of the Baptist faith and held a strong belief in the Lord. He had a huge heart, loved deeply, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He had a special gift for making people laugh and brought joy to those around him. He was a die-hard UT Vols fan and never missed a Saturday game. Stan loved fishing, outdoors, and had a great love for animals - passions he lovingly passed down to his children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cathy Whaley; his brothers, Dennis, Jerry, Billy Ray, Don, and Cecil Whaley; and his nephews, Roger Whaley and Steve Miller.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Samantha (Robbie) Brackett, Sonya (Johnny) Atkinson, Sandra "Katie" Whaley, and Sabrina Woodward; his beloved grandchildren, Drew (Maggie) Waldron, Tia (Anthony) Ceely, Jurnee Atkinson, Isaac Atkinson, Reagan Brackett, and Bailey Montmarquette; his sisters, Wilma Reed and Judy Foraker; his brother, Steve Whaley; his nephew, Kenneth Whaley, with whom he shared a very special bond; Katie's mother, Vickie Whaley; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Chris Guy and Jesse Grindstaff for the love, care, and unwavering support shown to Stan, especially in the past few years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at Morris-Baker Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow immediately at 7:00pm. The family will honor Stan's military service with a graveside memorial at Mountain Home National Cemetery, which will be announced shortly.
