Obituary for Susan Annette Bates
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Annette Bates, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on October 5, 2026, at the age of 72. Born on December 14, 1953, in Johnson City, TN, Susan was a lifelong resident of the area and a proud graduate of Jonesborough High School.
In her vibrant life, Susan wore many hats. She spent several years working for Levi Strauss Co. before she took a leap of faith and became the owner/operator of G&G Automotive Paint Supply, where she was known for her hard work and dedication to her craft. Susan was more than a businesswoman; she was a friend to many and a fixture in the community.
Susan was preceded in death by parents William & Willie Davis.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Freddie Bates, her son Erick Bates, daughter-in-law Alainya Hare Bates, and her cherished grandchildren, Zackery and Zyleigh Bates. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, brothers Tom, Terry, and Ted Davis, sisters Judy Parker and Joy Davis Odom, along with several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A member of the First Church of Nazarene in Elizabethton, Susan found her community and strength through her faith, which she shared with all who knew her.
The Bates family will receive friends Monday October 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon at Elizabethton First Church of the Nazarene. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon with Pastor Kenley Knight officiating. Family and friends will then meet at will be at Monte Vista Memorial Park on Monday October 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM for a Graveside service.
Susan will be remembered for her kind spirit, her infectious laughter, and her unwavering love for her family and community. She touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
