Susan Marjorie Calcatera Powell, 69, of Bluff City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at her home on May 14, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born on June 15, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, Susan was the daughter of the late Richard and Linda Osterman Calcatera. She graduated from Grosse Pointe High School and later met the love of her life, Steve Powell, while vacationing in Florida. The two were married on June 21, 1975, in Grosse Pointe and soon relocated to East Tennessee after the birth of their first child to be closer to family.
Susan built a successful career in retail management, working in various department stores and ultimately retiring from Belk in 2020. Known for her strong work ethic and warm personality, she left a lasting impression on coworkers and customers alike.
Susan loved the outdoors and found joy in the simple pleasures of life—taking walks, spending time at the beach, enjoying lunches with friends, and shopping. She was someone who liked to keep busy and was always eager to connect with those around her.
In addition to her parents, Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steve, in 2007, and her brother, Gary Calcatera.
She is survived by her children, Nick Powell and Lauren (Philip) Gray; her brothers, Mark (Liz) Calcatera, Jeff (JJ Diambrini) Calcatera, and Kevin Calcatera; as well as several cherished nieces and nephews. Her family and friends will remember her for her resilience, kindness, and unwavering love.
