Walter Oliver Holmes

Walter Oliver Holmes, 79, of Johnson City, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Walter was a Washington County native. He was a son of the late Arthur and Delzie Sliger Holmes. Walter proudly served in the US Navy. He worked for the Johnson City Power Board as a utility worker. He was a very loved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed fishing and watching wrestling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Holmes; sons, Thomas Edward Holmes and Arthur Joe Holmes; daughter, Linda Shell; grandson, Joseph Glover; sisters, Vergie King, Hazel Davenport, and Birdie Conley; and a brother. Survivors include four children, Debbie Kilpatrick, Rick Holmes, Ross Holmes, and Sadie Meredith; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and a brother, Carl Holmes. Interment is private.
