William DeRuyter, 89, of 1019 Montgomery Street, Johnson City, died Saturday April 2, 2005 at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was a native of Canada and had lived most of his life in Johnson City. Mr. DeRuyter had taken care of 82 foster children for 22 years for the Department of Human Services. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Whitehead DeRuyter in 1992. He was formerly a foreman with Giant Wholesale. He was of the Christian faith. Survivors include; two daughters; Melissa Washington and her husband, William, of Johnson City and Lane Barber of Hamlet, NC; one son, Charles William 'Chucky' DeRuyter of Greenville, TN; one sister, Syvi DeRuyter , New Jersey; one brother, Carl DeRuyter of New Jersey; three grandchildren, James Greer, Christopher Freeman and Brian Norton; two great grandchild, Kristen Elizabeth Greer and Archie James Norton.
