WHERE TO START

What To Do After A Loss

In the critical hours following the passing of a loved one, it is crucial to take prompt steps to notify the appropriate authorities, or alternatively, your chosen funeral home.

  • If the loved one passes away in a hospital or nursing home, a nurse will contact the funeral home.
  • If your loved one dies at home under hospice care, the family should inform the hospice nurse (if not already present), and the nurse will then notify the funeral home.
  • For a death at home without hospice care, it is necessary to call 911 to request the dispatch of EMS and a coroner or medical examiner. The coroner or medical examiner will subsequently contact the funeral home.
  • In the event of an accident or an out-of-home death, dial 911 to dispatch EMS, a coroner, and/or a medical examiner. Subsequently, the appointed authorities will contact the funeral home.

Our First Meeting

When you meet with one of our staff members to begin planning the funeral, we’ll ask plenty of questions about your loved one. You’re also welcome to share stories and other insights about them to help us get a better understanding of who they were. We’ll use the information we gather during this meeting to help you create a meaningful memorial service.

To help you prepare for this meeting, we’ve created a downloadable document that you can print and fill out to organize some of the information you’ll be sharing.

During this meeting, we’ll also share our general price list — as well as our various payment options — to help you understand the costs involved, depending on which service options you choose.

You Don't Have To Have All The Answers Now

Remember: These initial meetings are just a starting point.

You don't need to have everything in place from the very beginning. We’re here to make the process of planning the service simple and meaningful.
